If you had asked us in January of this year what we would be doing in May, we wouldn’t have thought that our work location would be a part of the conversation. We are now on month 2 of operating as a remote team. This new reality has brought with it a lot of opportunities to explore and learn about what a remote lifestyle could look like. We wanted to share 7 tips on how to navigate this new approach to work from our perspective.
Create your workspace.
Pick an area in your home that you can claim as your workspace. It can be the kitchen table or the couch. Make sure it’s a space where you can focus.
Establish a routine.
Wake up at the same time every workday and try to keep the same lunch break. This will keep your mind and body in a rhythm optimal for productivity. Try to dress up a little more. Getting out of your pj’s and into something more professional will tell your mind you are going into work mode.
Start with your list.
Before your workday begins, write down a list of “to-do’s” and stick to your list. This will help you to set goals and will provide a visual guide to make sure you are being productive.
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate.
Check-in with your team throughout the day. Keep them updated on your work and deliverables. Make sure to communicate any changes as soon as you are aware of them.
You need a break!
A balanced approach to your work will ensure that you can put out quality work. Try taking regularly scheduled breaks. Walk away from your screen. If you can, take a 10-15 minute walk outside a couple of times during the day.
Make space for those in your home.
Working from home can be a big disruption for family, kids, or roommates. Make sure that you sit down and talk about your schedules. This will prevent frustration and miscommunication.
Relax.
Don’t take yourself too seriously! Try to be positive and make the best out of the situation. Before a meeting or a call, take a deep breath in and then slowly exhale. If you’re on video, don’t forget to smile!
We know there’s a lot more to consider when it comes to working from home, but we hope these 7 tips provide a starting point. As a team, we’ve learned to embrace the remote work approach while also making sure we continue to deliver excellent work for our clients. So if you would like to talk about how we can help your brand thrive in this environment, let’s connect! Remotely, of course.
